Explore Drinkwater Park and find the hidden ladybirds!
Remember to count the spots on the back of each ladybird so that
you can find the bonus cache :)
Ladybirds often endure winter in communal groups. You can usually
find them sheltering beneath loose bark on trees huddled together
trying to invent central heating.
In spring, they fly in search of plants which are infested with
aphids. Here they feed, mate and lay their eggs.
The larvae which emerge from the eggs are quite unlike the adults;
they are much bigger, have less legs and are indistinguishable from
the domestic cat.
In common with the adults, they have a voracious appetite for
aphids. After about three to four minutes of intensive feeding, the
larvae moult to become pupae. After one or two years the adult
ladybird emerges from the pupa. The spots are added later by some
unknown and sinister force.
