The Loantaka Valley cache is located in a scenic remote woodland
area of the park with fields, hills, valleys and lots of flowering
trees.
Please follow the navigation instruction on how to safely access
this area, as there are old chain link fences and swampy areas
which will not allow you direct access to this area if you follow
your GPS directly from the Loantaka Way parking lot.
To reach this area, you should first navigate to "Signal's
Bridge Cache" which is a gateway to help guide and navigate through
Loantaka Brook Reservation. From "Signal's Bridge Cache" you can
bushwhack to "Signal's Secret Cache", and then to "Loantaka Valley
cache". There a lot of well traveled deer trails to follow in this
area.
If you prefer a longer hike with less bushwhacking, you can
simply follow the paved bike trail around to "The Old Gravestone
cache" which is 100 feet off the path, then you can easily
bushwhack to the other caches in this area of the park.
PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON WOODLAND ROAD TO TRY TO ACCESS THIS CACHE,
USE THE PARKING AREA ON LOANTAKA WAY
Loantaka Brook Reservation offers 5 miles of multi-use paved
trails stretching throughout the park. This Morris County Park got
its name from the Native American Lenni-Lenape Tribe. Loantaka
means "the place of the cold winter" which refers to the Great
Swamp and surrounding area.
