Geocache Description:

This is cache is situated in Masterton.

Near this site, on the evening of May 21st 1854, the first party of Small Farm Association settlers arrived to establish the township of Masterton. The Government had purchased the land in 1853 from Retimana Te Korou for the Association. The party comprising Michael Dixon, his daughter Emma, John Cole and David Dixon, had taken two weeks to drive their small mob of 37 cattle from Wellington.

They run out of food and on their arrival were fed by the local chief, Ihaiah Whakamairu.

This site became part of the Worksop Farm, the property of Charles and Mary Dixon and was later donated for the beautification of Masterton.

The cache is a nano, containing a log-book.
