Third in our series of caches on the grounds of the former Ontario Reformatory in Guelph. Note that the cache is not at the posted co-ordinates. You will have to project a waypoint to locate it!
** Also note that the property is closed to vehicle traffic. Please park along York Road where permitted and access the grounds on foot. **
One of the historic features of the property is the stone walls constructed by the former inmates as part of their work programs. The walls on the eastern side of the property are still mostly intact, and enclose a semi-wetland area.
Unlike some of the cut stone retaining wallls near the former superintendent residence, these walls are made from carefully stacked field stone and do not use any concrete, hence their name.
The co-ordinates will take you to a small bridge over the stream that drains the wetland. There is a small artificial dam and waterfall here, creating a small pond. You may see some ducks or other waterfowl enjoying the pond.
The cache can be found by projecting a waypoint using the following information. Make sure your GPS is set to TRUE north.
Bearing: 69 degrees
Distance: 482m
You are looking for the a small, cammoed lock and lock container with a logbook and a small film canister inside with a collection of pins. Trading pins is preferred, but not required. But if you take something, please leave an item of equal or greater interest.
