Geocache Description:

This is a recently paved route, opened in April 2010, on the old railway line from Horncastle to Woodhall Spa, of about 3.5 miles long. There is parking at either end of the trail and also in the middle (which at present is not wheelchair friendly). The pathway is very easy to walk/cycle on and has a very slight gradient. There are notice boards along the route telling of the railway history and various sculptures to keep you amused. With the sheep (and their lambs), horses, very large Highland Cattle and stunning scenery there is plenty to keep everyone happy.

In the series there are 9 caches of various sizes and difficulties, most of which contain a log and pencil. The larger caches also contain various toys for the children (and young at heart) to swap. The trail is safe for children and dogs but please be aware of the stream that runs alongside the path between cache numbers 4 and 5. All of the caches are within a few metres from the path.

West – N53° 09.958 W000° 10.940
Middle – N53° 10.548 W000° 09.105

At the East end of the trail it is possible to extend your walk into Horncastle. Follow the footpath along the canal for about a mile. Turn right over the footbridge and continue following the river towards the town centre.

At the West end of the trail you can extend your walk into Woodhall Spa which is about 2 miles. Turn right and head towards the public footpath sign on the left hand side, through the golf course. Please observe the signposts that let you know which direction the golfers are coming from. Continue along the footpath, past the Dower House and turn left through the white gates (public footpath). Continue straight on to the main road and turn right where you will find the shops.
