One of my favourite things my wife and I like about Geocaching is that it often brings us to locations we never knew existed. We've discovered beautiful little parks, amazing views or interesting history for places we've lived near for years. I've lived in Calgary for 24 years and never knew about the Silver Springs waterfall or Silverthorn park until we decided to take Lucy (our Geodog) on a walk to find some caches there and were stunned by the beauty so close to home.
Down the hill from the paved bike path along the top of the ridge there are many little hard packed paths where the geodog loves to run or sneak down to the river for a drink/swim.
Along these paths running parallel to the paved path you'll find lots of old cottonwood trees. The cache is a film canister covered in duct tape (there was a red pipe cleaner to hook onto something, but it is gone now). It could be tougher once the bushes fill in with leaves.
The cache initially contained a logbook, A Cineplex game token and a fossil. (Sorry no writing stick and no special FTF prize)
Sign the log, enjoy the view and watch out for the muggle mountain bikers and dog walkers.
