Charlotte Checkers Hockey- He Shoots, He Scores!!! Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Caniac Nation: Live a little further away than I did when placing so I'm archiving. Tough to maintain a multi when cords are exposed to the weather.

Geocache Description:

After entering the park, take the right fork to the parking area. You should be able to stick to the foot paths to get close to the waypoints. Up to you, but I'd come back to the parking lot after each stage. After finishing Stage 1, unless you want to take a long walk, I suggest getting back into your vehicle and driving to the main parking area (left after entering park) for the other stages. Not too bad if you want to bring kids.

This cache is a tribute to the Charlotte Checkers, our local professional hockey team in Charlotte, NC. Starting in 2010-2011 season, the Charlotte Checkers are moving up to the AHL as the farm team of the Carolina Hurricanes. I am a STH. Go Checkers! Photobucket Amid such a strong reception, the Baltimore Clippers moved to Charlotte full-time for the 1956-57 season, adopting the Checkers nickname in 1960. As the Clippers, the team won the EHL's Atlantic City Boardwalk Trophy in 1956-57 and back-to-back Walker Cup regular season titles the first two seasons in Charlotte. The Checkers would win the EHL title again in the 1970-71 and 1971-72 seasons. Along with most of the EHL's Southern Division, the Checkers joined the Southern Hockey League in 1973. Charlotte would win SHL titles in 1974-75 and 1975-76 before that league's demise in 1977. Following a 17-year hiatus from hockey, Charlotte welcomed the Checkers back in 1993. Since their return, the Checkers have made the playoffs nine times, including winning the ECHL Championship in 1996. The current Checkers franchise played from 1993 until 2005 in Bojangles' Coliseum. In 2005, they moved to Time Warner Cable Arena. The team set their all time attendance record of 12,398 on February 21, 2009 in a 5-2 win against the Florida Everblades. Their previous record was 11,237 in a loss against the Texas Wildcatters in February 2007. On February 10, 2010, the sale of the AHL's Albany River Rats to the Checkers owner was confirmed with the Rats taking on the Checkers identity starting with the 2010-11 season. As a result of this, the Checkers' ECHL membership will be relinquished to the League at the end of the 2009-10 ECHL season, ending the franchise's ECHL history. Tickets are fairly inexpensive starting at $10, so if you get the chance, attend a Checkers game and bring the kids! Cache is initially stocked with army men, little dinosaurs, and playdough. Be careful of muggles, since there is a fair amount of ground clearing going on in the park! Congrats to Hurricanefan on being FTF!
