Believe it or not, the Rt. 47 bridge in Morris is the third bridge over the Illinois river. This bridge is only 4 years old.
The second bridge was at the location of the current rt. 47 span, but was blown up so that the new bridge could be completed.
The first bridge was located about 1/2 mile north of this cache location, and was decommissioned around 1938. It was subsequently destroyed.
Looking at a map, this road connected Dwight to Morris, and up to the small town of Lisbon. After this bridge was destroyed, apparently a club or private entity bought this approach, and currently uses it for a private boat ramp. Google Earth clearly shows the matching road at the north side of the Illinois River. Make sure to visit Doughball's Canal Heritage cache on the north side of the river, as its a very short distance south to the north approach for the long gone bridge.
This cache is placed on public right of way. You should not have to go into the farm field. Bring a pen. Do not drive down the old road. You should be able to park at the intersection.
Bumping up terrain, as the underbrush is treacherous near the start, and because of the terrible amount of mosquitoes here.
