Geocache Description:

Autherley Junction is an important canal junction, where in 1830 Thomas Telford brought his Birmingham & Liverpool Junction Canal (now part of the Shropshire Union system) to join the much older Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal (built by James Brindley and opened in 1772)

There is a former canal toll office here, also a boatyard and a boat club.

The stop lock has a fall of only 6ins. It was insisted upon by the Staffs & Worcs Canal Company to prevent the newer canal from stealing water from them.

This cache is placed in a very public place so real stealth is required while looking and retreiving.

The cache is also very very close to deep water so take care.

This is a small camo covered box, please make sure it is securely closed or else it will get damp.
