Geocache Description:

This is an easy roadside grab with enough space to park on either side (south side is roomier). It is not a busy road, but check your mirrors before you open your door. You will also need to bring your own writing utensil.

I am placing this cache in memory of an incident back in 1969 that I survived but my bicycle didn't. At age fourteen, the oldest of five kids, and my parents just purchasing a farm around the corner from here, there was no money left at the time to buy a bicycle for me. But, someone gave me an old single speed beater that I completely stripped down and painted, but a new chain on and patched and filled the tires. I spent hours working on fixing that thing up and was very proud of it! I was, and still am a horse fanatic, and at the time I did not own one of my own but would do anything just to be around them. Gord & Irene Tait, on the next concession west hosted a horse show every third Sunday and I would take 45 minutes to an hour to walk over there just to be around horses and horse people. But, this weekend I was going to get there in at least half the time on my new/used bicycle! South on the fourth concession I go, turn west on the Ashworth Sideroad, bike is working perfectly! This sideroad was gravel at the time and I started down that hill at full speed, pedaling even on the down hill I was so excited about getting there quickly. All of a sudden I find the bike starting to wobble, and then I'm flying through the air and the next thing I'm picking gravel out of my knees, right arm and both hands. I pick my pride and joy up to carry on and notice that the front wheel is horribly bent and the fork is broken. I was so angry I picked it up over my head and threw it into the ravine off the side of the road and walked/limped the rest of my journey. Today, forty one years later, thinking about cache in trash out, I was driving by and decided to see if that old bike was still there. It was not. I then decided to leave a cache in memory of this incident. So while you are standing there filling out the log, you can look up the hill and picture what happened and have a laugh on me!

Keep on Smiling!
