Geocache Description:

Located off the Pennypack Rail Trail in Lorimer Park, a 230 acre natural area in Abington Township. Cache is an ammo box.

Hidden to help celebrate the "10 years! Southeastern Pennsylvania" event cache held May 1, 2010 (GC24R5Y). This is the 6th cache placed in Lorimer Park, and this time you get to explore the new Pennypack Rail Trail.

Officially opened in June 2009, the two miles of converted rail bed provide a level path for walking and biking. The views of the creek valley are beautiful!

The cache is located at Camp Melmar; a scout camping area that has been in existence since the 1930's. Although not an official Boy Scouts of America camp, local troops use the site for weekend getaways to practice their scouting skills. While the land is part of Lorimer Park, the facility is maintained by a private camping club. There is also a nice fishing hole here.

Please note the following park rules:
- park hours are 8:00am till sunset (see signs for specific closing time; strictly enforced.)
- Dogs are now permitted on the trails, but not in the picnic area or main activity field.
- Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Be advised that Lyme Disease carrying Deer Ticks inhabit the area. If you venture through the undergrowth you are urged to use bug repellent, check yourself for ticks and bathe as soon as possible.

Note: If scouts are using the camp, you may need to explain what you are doing.
