Grodzisko:
Na szczycie wzgórza w miejscowosci Chelm
znajduje sie wczesnosredniowieczne grodzisko. Sa to pozostaosci
grodu plemienia Wislan. Wzgórze to ma postac cypla, którego oplywa
rzeka Raba, dzieki czemu jest ono naturalnie chronione z 3 stron.
Teren grodziska zajmuje ok 8 ha, a waly sa dzis slabo czytelne -
byc moze nigdy nie byly one duze ze wzgledu na naturalne walory
obronne wzgórza. Badania archeologiczne wykazaly tutaj slady
osadnictwa juz w neolicie, jednak gród funkcjonowal w IX-XI w. W
jego poblizu przebiegal sredniowieczny trakt z przeprawa na Rabie,
bylo to wiec bardzo strategiczne miejsce. Gród prawodopodobnie
upadl po tym, jak stracil swoje znaczenie na rzecz grodu w
Lapczycy
Ze szczytu grodziska rozciaga sie wspanialy widok na okolice.
Znajduje sie tam wiata z miejscem na grilla, mozna wiec urzadzic
sobie piknik.

Hill fort:
On the top of a hill in Chelm there is an
early-medieval hill fort. These are the remains of GRÓD (a Slavic
city) which was populated by the Vistulans. The hill is a
promontory, around which the Raba river flows, giving it natural
protection from 3 sides. The area of the hill fort is about 8 ha
and ramparts are poorly visible - maybe they were never needed to
be big due to the natural defence characteristics of the hill.
Archaeological investigation demonstrated that remains of a
settlement from neolithic period are there, however, the gród was
fully functional during 9-11 century only. Very close to it there
was a medieval road and ford on the river Raba, so this was indeed
a very strategic spot. The gród probably fell down when another
gród in Lapczyca became more important.
A beautiful panorama of the neighbourhood stretches from the top of
the hill fort. There is also a shelter with a grill so you can stay
there for a picnic.
The best spot to leave your car is at coordinates N 49° 58.340 E
020° 19.074.
