Beware of muggles of every kind including on foot, on bikes, in cars, pushing strollers, walking dogs, and even peering out from their upstairs bedroom windows!
Back in 1989, my neighborhood had just been constructed, and Hollywood came scouting for locations to form the backdrop for this scene in the movie. They needed a brand new housing tract next to open farmland, and my neighborhood fit the bill perfectly.

A brief recounting of the story points from the trilogy that relate to this particular scene: In the original movie, we learn that Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) in 1985 is a somewhat unproductive teenager who aspires to be a famous rock n’ roll guitarist.
In the second movie, we learn that the “future” of 2015 (which doesn’t seem all that far off now, does it?) is all messed up, and Marty is stuck in a dreadful corporate job because he was involved in a street drag race back in “1985”, where he crashed into a Rolls Royce and permanently damaged his hand, thus destroying his aspirations at rock n’ roll greatness. The race supposedly takes place in the moments following the closing of the first movie, where Marty successfully comes back from “1955”, and finds that in the “new and improved” 1985, he is the owner of a shiny new black Toyota 4x4 pick-up truck. As described in the second movie, he and his girlfriend, Jennifer (Elizabeth Shue) are driving around in Marty’s new ride when he is challenged to the fateful street drag race by his arch-nemesis, “Needles”.

Where the second movie spends most of its time in various versions of the “future” of 2015, the third installment spends most of its time in “the old west” of 1885. This is where Marty’s penchant for not backing down from a challenge (especially when accused of being “chicken”) is established. Near the end of the third movie, Marty and Jennifer are shown riding around in Marty’s new black Toyota 4x4, (filmed on the road adjacent to my neighborhood!). They stop for a red light at an intersection (at the end of my street!), where they are encountered by Needles (played by Flea, lead guitarist for The Red Hot Chili Peppers) and his gang of fellow slacker punks in his big red 4x4 pick-up truck. Flea challenges Marty to the street drag race, even going so far as to accuse Marty of being “Chicken”. Will Marty take the bait, participate in the race, crash into the Rolls Royce, and forever ruin his chance at rock n’ roll greatness?
