Back in the late 90's, I use to come fishing on this lake. I have been wanting to place a cache in this Newton County park for years now. Surprisingly, many residence of Newton and Walton counties don't even know this park exists. The ones that do may get a bit mad at me for revealing the existence of this park.
As you can see, I have finally gotten around to hiding a cache here. I have used some of my favorite hunting methods on some of the stages. So beware!
After hunting the cache, plan on spending the rest of the day at this nicely laid out park. Pack a picnic lunch as there are many picnicking areas offered throughout the park. Bar-B-Que grills are also available in the lakeside picnic areas. Restroom facilities are available near the childrens playground. Shaded picnic tables can also be found close to the playground.
If you own an electric powered boat, the park has a dual ramp boat ramp located at the Northern most part of the park. Sorry, no gas powered boats are allowed on this lake. A shaded picnic area is also located near the boat ramp.
CONGRATS TO Dougs94 and Linda FOR THE FTF!
INSTRUCTIONS TO FIND THE CACHE.
============================
WARNING!
This is not a quick easy multi cache hunt.
Most people that have hunted my caches know that for the most part, I do not like to hide basic and non exciting caches. This is one of those caches designed to bring you to, and highlight an area not known to many. This cache hunt could get a bit lengthy, but it should be fun for you.
The posted coordinates lead you to the middle of a large vehicle parking lot. From that spot, locate a picnic table at the highest elevation of the park. Go to that table and have a seat facing the lake.
Look 45 degrees to your right. Across and on the other side of the lake you should see a rather large privately owned pavilion.
Now look to your left. You will see a Martin Pole. To the right of the Martin Pole you will see 3 power poles in the distance. One of those power poles has a light pole close to it. That pole also has a gray wire cover running up it. That will be the power pole you will be using.
Now stand up and walk backwards away from the table and lake, keeping the pavilion across the lake ALIGNED with the CENTER of the picnic table.
While walking back, stop at the point where the Martin Pole ALIGNS with the power pole closest to the light pole.
Make sure that the table and pavilion are still aligned. Wait for your GPS to settle down and take a coordinate reading.
From your NEW coordinate reading,
SUBTRACT .054 from the North Coordinate,
and ADD .013 to the West Coordinate.
You now have the coordinates to Stage 1. The rest of the stages are not aggressively hidden and should be easy to find. Note: Some bushwhacking may be required as the trail has been over-grown or re-routed in some areas.
How many stages are there? You could complete this cache in as few as 3 stages. Or it could take you as many as 8 stages to complete this cache. At 2 of the stages, I have hidden 2 items. One will lead you towards the long route and one will take you towards the shorter route.
Bring plenty of water and bug spray. There is no need for any serious bushwhack towards any of the stages as all of them are easily accessible from the trail and/or paved areas. Due to a re-routing of the trail, some bush whacking may be required to get to one of the stages. Also, some minor bushwhacking may be required to get to the final container. There you will be looking for a large Screw-Top container. The container is well hidden, but a seasoned geocacher should have no problem spotting it.
Enjoy your walk on the trails through the forest and next to the lake.
