Estudo da morfologia granítica na Serra das Mesas

Localização e enquadramento da área de estudo. A Serra das Mesas, latitude 40º 16’ 22’’N, longitude 6º 51’ 30’’W e altitude 1256 m, respeitante ao marco geodésico das Mesas, localiza-se na área sudeste do Concelho do Sabugal, concretamente na freguesia de Foios. A Serra das Mesas, constituindo um batólito, isto é, de natureza granítica, é parte integrante do sector terminal, ocidental, da Cordilheira Central espanhola, que penetra no território português através de um conjunto de elevações usualmente designado por Serra da Malcata, mas que as designações locais de toponímia diferenciam como é exemplo a Serra das Mesas.

A Serra das Mesas destaca-se do conjunto de elevações onde está inserida, unidade geomorfológica da Serra da Malcata, por duas razões, em primeiro lugar, pela altitude, possuindo o ponto onde ocorre a maior altitude da unidade, atingindo os 1256m, e em segundo lugar, pelo facto de ser a única serra deste conjunto onde domina a litologia granítica. Em relação à litologia a Serra das Mesas apresenta um granito porfiróide de duas micas e grão médio a fino. A Serra das Mesas é uma área intrigante e rica ao nível do modelado granítico, sendo possível observar na paisagem o granito esculpido com arte e mestria pela natureza e pela passagem do tempo. A área apresenta uma morfologia desconcertante tanto pela riqueza, como pela quantidade e originalidade de modelado que conserva e que resultou numa diversidade exuberante de formas.

O desenvolvimento do trabalho de campo levou à comprovação que o batólito da Serra das Mesas é um extraordinário “laboratório” de pesquisa da morfologia granítica, apresentando um ecletismo realmente notável e originando uma multiplicidade de formas sempre originais, sempre surpreendentes.

Serra das mesas última parte - Formas de Pormenor – As Mesas

No trabalho de campo acerca da morfologia granítica na Serra das Mesas fomos presenteados com uma enorme variedade de formas de entre as quais destacamos, pela sua originalidade e singularidade as “mesas”. As “mesas” são a designação adoptada para referenciar esta forma cúbica e relativamente bem conservada que apresentam os blocos graníticos nesta serra. Foi talvez devido a este desconcertante modelado que a sabedoria popular pertinentemente chamou a esta serra a Serra das Mesas. A morfologia designada por mesas tem claramente a sua génese no sistema de fracturas ortogonais, sendo a partir desta associação relativamente complexa de diáclases que se interseccionam formando ângulos rectos entre si, que se justifica a forma cúbica que apresentam as mesas, ou seja, blocos perfeitamente cúbicos, quase sempre ultrapassando a dimensão métrica.

As observações permitem-nos constatar, em primeiro lugar, um incisivo sistema de fracturas ortogonais, desenhando uma matriz bastante perfeita de diáclases, em segundo lugar, esta área provavelmente possui uma constituição mineralógica que difere nalgumas características do restante batólito e a partir do qual se poderá justificar uma maior resistência aos processos de meteorização resultando assim na morfologia única que apresenta.

In the field work on the morphology of Sierra granite tables were presented with a variety of ways among which we highlight, for its originality and uniqueness of the "tables". The "table" is the name adopted for referencing this cubic shape and relatively well preserved showing the granite blocks in this mountain. It was perhaps owing to this baffling modeled the wisdom rightly called this mountain range of Sierra tables. The morphology called tables clearly has its genesis in the system of orthogonal fractures, and from this relatively complex combination of joints that intersect at right angles to each other, which justifies the cubic form showing the tables, or blocks perfectly cubic, often exceeding the size metric.
The observations allow us to see, first, an incisive orthogonal fracture system, designing an array of joints quite perfect, secondly, this area probably has a mineral composition that differs in some characteristics of the remaining batholith and from which one can justify a greater resistance to weathering processes thereby resulting in unique morphology presented.
