Cornelly mine is at the eastern end of the Foxdale East-West mine
system, and opened in 1837 under name Jones' mine. It was a lead
mine, but deposits at lower depths ran dry and led to the
abandonment of the mine. However, some original buildings are still
standing.
From Cache no2, walk westwards a little until you find the greenway
road on this side of the valley - then follow this downhill towards
no3. Don't forget to look back over your shoulder now and then at
the mines, which are beautiful on a good day!
From here,
continue descending northwards. Soon you'll cross the railway track
and end up back on the main road - the Hawthorne is just a short
distance eastwards. Alternatively, you could walk along the railway
track eastwards, completing Happy Humphrey's The Darragh and Kerrowgarrow, then going back to the Hawthorne
the way you started out. Whilst you are in the village of Greeba,
why not try out my Greeba Loop or my Rhenny Plantation Loop as well.
