Capt. Alex Heasley Mystery Cache
Walkworthy & Wife: This was one of my favorite caches. I enjoyed doing a series on Veterans who served our country. This cache has been muggled twice since placing it. I'm not sure if muggles just happened upon it or if cachers didn't replace the cache properly allowing it to be found by a muggle.

This is the second cache in a series dedicated to veterans. It is a small cache placed near an old, but active cemetery in Pulaski Township, Lawrence County. PA.
Congratulations to Redneck78 & Wife on being the FTF
I happened upon this out of the way cemetery just recently. Upon entering the cemetery a well preserved head stone caught my attention. It was that of a Civil War Veteran that had a Union Soldier engraved on it. My first thought was to create a cache based on this soldier who lost his life in the fourth war that was fought on American soil. This is the first and only war where American fought American. But a man, who was walking his dog approached me and pointed out another Civil War Veteran's grave. Capt. Alex Heasley.
After reading the inscription on his headstone I decided to dedicate this cache in memory of him.
In her book,
"REMINISCENCES OF MY LIFE IN CAMP
WITH THE 33D UNITED STATES
COLORED TROOPS LATE 1ST
S. C. VOLUNTEERS"
Susie King Taylor, a young black woman that served the Union Army as a regimental laundress, made mention of Capt. Heasley twice;
"I remember hearing Captain Heasley telling his company, one day, 'Boys, stand up for your full pay! I am with you, and so are all the officers.' This captain was from Pennsylvania, and was a very good man; all the men liked him."
". . .we were ordered to Augusta, Ga., where Captain Alexander Heasley, of Co. E, was shot and killed by a Confederate."
Since there are more veterans buried in this cemetery, the coordinates are for Capt. Heasley's headstone.
Bring some paper and a writing implement to solve the puzzle and sign the log.
To locate the cache you will need to solve this puzzle by using the following information found on Capt. Heasley's headstone:
A. Add the 2 digits of the day he died.
B. The first digit of the year he died.
C. Add the last two digits of the year he died and subtract 10.
D. According to the inscription on the headstone, how many men killed him.
E. Add the 2 digits of his troop number together.
F. The last number of the year he died.
Now enter these numbers to the corresponding letters below to get the coordinates to find the cache.
N 41° 07 . A B C
W 080° 25 . D E F
While I walked around the cemetery looking at headstones, I thought I could hear running water. I searched for its source and found a nice little stream, Buchanan Run and decided this would be a great place to hide the cache. I hope you enjoy the view and tranquility this area provides.
Because of the heavy tree cover it was difficult to get a real accurate set of coordinates. I made three separate visits on different days to GZ taking 5 readings and averaged them out.
There are muggles from time to time which I discovered on my third trip here. They ride their quads near the stream.
Please cache only between the hours of dawn to dusk.
Please replace the cache like you found it.
Since I increased the cache size from a micro to a small, the overall method of hiding the cache has changed and cachers are seemingly finding the cache container easier, as of 08/26/15 I decreased the difficultly from 5 to 4.
