Geocache Description:

Famous nightclub

This is the site of one of Evansville's most famous nightclubs during the '30's and '40's. It operated from 1937 till 1945. My old friend, Witt Eckstein, who died at 100 a few years ago, started this club and ran it for several years. I remember him telling me some of the top stars of the day played there, including a young Perry Como. Most of the top bands of the '40's would also visit. I believe they had an indoor and outdoor dance and dinning area. Shortly after Witt sold the club, it burned down. I'm sure the road here is named after the club, not the other way around. In 1999, when Witt was 97, I took him to the Kentucky Derby and he was probably the oldest person there that day. He stood on the rail most of the afternoon to have a good view of the race, and he wore me out. Witt attended his first Derby in 1923, and wanted to go one last time. Can anyone tell me who won the 1999 Derby? If so, post it on the cache site. And bonus points if you name the 1923 winner.
