Geocache Description:

Candy Rock is the name given to a type of Ryolite once quarried near here. The quarry has been reclaimed but view is as spectaular as ever.

There are not many places were you can see the Stanislaus River Canyon. What you are seeing here is the North Fork of the Stanislaus River east of the confluence of the Middle Fork of the same river. Other features include the Mill Creek, Griswold Creek and Beaver Creek drainages but you may need your topo map and a compass to pick them out.

At least three major geographic features can be seen here although you may have to seek them out on the road. (Hint: Near the gate is where is where the Stanislaus River used to flow.)

The road past the gate is US Forest Service land. However the land between Highway 4 and the gate are private lands with homes nearby. Please keep your speed below 15 mph to help control the dust.

The gate is closed seasonally by the USFS. If you find the gate closed, you may park there and take a short walk to the cache and view.

Congrats to Troll #5 for the FTF! Game On!
