Næs Bro
At this point there is a historical stone bridge (steinhvelvbru), Næs Bro. It was part of the old Silver road, which was built in the 1660's. The Silver road was Norways first official road, built in conjuction with the start of silver mining in Kongsberg in 1623. The first stretch went from Kongsberg to Drammen, and from there continued to Christiania (Oslo).
In the 1770's the Kings road was built here (Kongeveien). It later became Gamle Drammensvei (the old Drammensvei) and is today named Nesbruveien. Billingstadsletta, which also passes here, was previously Drammensveien - Riksvei 40. This road was in use circa 1850 to mid 20th century. Between 1954-1977 todays highway, the E18, was built.
Næs Bro was originally a wading place. It was not until 1770 that a wooden bridge was built here. The stone bridge itself is from 1800. It was modernised in 1972 and restored in 1993. You can also see the old 20 km marker (to Oslo) at this point.
