GWR over T&S Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

RedCableTie: Given the unpleasant and offensive nature of the attack on these caches I have decided to archive the series. Apologies to anyone who attempts any of the caches this weekend, but given the nature of the graffiti I have removed the caches quickly - after all geocaching is supposed to be child-friendly.

If someone else wants to use this bit of redundant canal towpath to place some caches please do - it is a very pleasant walk and would complement other caches in the area.

Geocache Description:

This cache is one of three that we have put in along the tow path of the former Thames and Severn Canal. These caches supplement those put in by Middleleaze Moles along the tow path nearer the south-eastern end of the Sapperton Tunnel.

This cache is near the impressive bridge that carries the Kemble to Stroud section of the Great Western Railway over the canal. The bridge is of the curved-arch construction pioneered by Brunel – indeed this might be one of his bridges (but I'm not sure whether it is or isn't).

From the canal tow path there is no need to cross any fence or wall, nor descend from the tow path towards the canal to access the cache.

The tow path is good, but not completely flat walking. However accessing the cache means going off the tow path into the undergrowth at the side.

Grass verge parking is available at N51 41.989 W2 01.497 on the road leading south out of the village of Coates towards the Cirencester to Tetbury road – then follow the signposted Monarchs Way to the west. Parking is also available near the Tunnel House Inn from which the tow path can be accessed directly.
