Geocache Description:

Cherokee Park is an expansive area that snakes west along the Eau Pleine River, and has a wide variety of activities available to visitors. It features a place to picnic and grill, park benches along the water, a park for the kids and a covered pavilion that plays host to a hand operated water pump.

The river in this particular area is relatively shallow depending on the season and recent weather. As always, please be careful around the water.

To reach the cache, one only has to follow the well-worn hiking trails that follow the riverbank. If you're new to Cherokee Park, the simplest way to find these trails is to keep to the river. There are a couple points where it seems the trail ends, but keep your eyes peeled and you'll see where it ran off to.

You can bushwhack through the brush if you like, but do be aware that the terrain is harder than it looks. I've been here several times before, but the first time was to find a cache hidden by a local scoutmaster and I roughed it because I didn't know of the trails. Needless to say, I was exhausted by the time I reached the cache. Since that cache has apparently been archived - a real shame, too - I decided to hide mine here.

The last one hundred feet or so to the GZ will take you off the hiking path, uphill, and over a wide outcropping of loose rocks. BE CAREFUL. If you take it slow and watch where you step, you'll be fine. If you rush yourself and race to the cache, you're bound to get hurt.

Like so many other caches, you're looking for an ammo box, but you may notice something different about this one. Please feel free to photograph yourself with the cache if you find it. You'll want to bring a camera anyway. Cherokee Park is by far the most beautiful park in Marathon County. It's worth a snapshot or ten!
