Keekle Community Park was opened in 1994, The park is maintained by members of the local community. Please support them if you happen to visit during their annual fete or duck race.
It is situated in the shadow of the very impressive Keekle viaduct, built in 1877 to help transport iron ore from the local mines to Workington. The viaduct closed to passenger traffic in 1931 and freight in 1963. The old packhorse bridge over the River Keekle was restored in 1994. The park contains a children’s adventure playground as well as benches and picnic tables, an underground beach as my children refer to it, and a river for paddling. Cachers with canines and/or children will enjoy the facilities, as will bird, butterfly and flower watchers. A path leads underneath the viaduct itself.
The cache is a micro containing only a small log – bring a pencil ! The area is frequented by members of the non caching community so please be patient – it’s a nice place to be patient after all !
There are three entrances to the park. Car parking should not be a problem – many people park on the very wide ‘pavement/verge’ for want of a better description, at the Moor Row road junction.
