Sheridan Butte climbs to
2,661 feet(811.07 meters) above sea level. It is located west of
Terry, MT and was used for signalling during the Indian Wars by
U.S. soldiers. The names and dates of some of the soldiers and
early settlers have been carved into the sandstone here. The butte
is named after General Sheridan who supposedly climbed to the top
to watch for Custer and his men.
We have found the Northeast side to be the easiest climb. Expect to
hike almost a mile each way . Start at the Calypso trail.
