Geocache Description:

Purtsa maalinn (ka: Kooljamägi) asub Leisi vallas Karja külast läände suunduval teel, umbes 6 km kaugusel Pamma külast. 1344. a. veebruaris peeti siin saarlaste ja orduvägede vahel üks verisemaid lahinguid. Ühtlasi toimus siin ka Jüriöö ülestõusu viimane lahing.

Praegu katab linnusevalle männik. Purtsa maalinn on Eesti arheoloogiamälestis. Aarde kättesaamiseks pole vaja mõttetult kaevata. Aaret katab küll geomaskeering kuid asjaarmastajad peaks aarde kiirelt leidma. Purtsa Fortress, (also: Kooljamägi) is located in Leisi parish, approximately 6 km from Pamma village. It was one of the largest Estonian strongholds on the island. It was the last place, where St. George's Night Uprising (Jüriöö ülestõus) lasted in Estonia. In the winter of 1344 the knights of Livonian order penetrated the stronghold after tearing down one of the battlements. 2,000 people were killed in the fortress. Germans lost 500 killed. The Oeselian king Vesse was captured, tortured, and then executed. Nowadays there are pines growing in the walls of the fortress. No need for digging, geocacher should see right away, where the cache hides itself
