The London Event goes back south of the Thames to the City of
Southwark where we meet up at the historic George Inn,
London’s last remaining galleried coaching inn. Gather from
5pm on the 12th June 2010 and if the weather is clement we’ll
meet outside in the vast courtyard.
The George has been on this site just south of London Bridge since
mediaeval times. Being on the Watling Street it was one of many
coaching inns that that hosted weary traders and travellers who
visited to London from Canterbury, Dover and mainland Europe. The
present building replaced the one which was destroyed by fire that
swept throughout Southwark in 1676. It’s said that Charles
Dickens frequented the inn for coffee during his younger days.
We’ll rest here for coffee too or for something a bit
stronger. Cooked food will be available for the duration and this
inn is child and wheelchair friendly. Bring your TBs and Geocaching
stories for exchange. This event has been request by Roxianna of
Germany, no doubt not arriving by coach and horses!
