Dans le village de Luzenac (09, Ariège), au bout de la petite et étroite Rue de l'Eglise (accès à pied seulement depuis l'Eglise), en face d'un gîte rural
In the village of Luzenac (Ariège county, Pyrenees), at the end of the small and narrow Church Street (only for pedestrian from the Church), in front of a country house.
A cet endroit la rivière Ariège fait un coude. Présence d'énormes rochers, derniers témoins de la dernière érosion glaciaire. La cache est située dans le mur près d'un cognassier sauvage, à proximité de ces rochers. On accède facilement à la cache, au bout de la rue, par un portillon de bois, sur la gauche, qui ouvre sur un petit escalier de pierre qui conduit à la rivière. Prendre ensuite à droite sur 10 m en longeant le mur.
La cache "Les Aygues-Vives" est située sur un site d’intérêt écologique classé Natura 2000, non loin d’Ax-les-Thermes, en haute-Ariège. On y pêche la truite en observant le ballet des canards sauvages, de la bergeronnette des rivières et du cingle plongeur, un petit oiseau noir à plastron blanc très original.
Attenante à la cache, une plage de sable fin se prête à la baignade. Les alluvions de l’Ariège ont longtemps attiré les chercheurs d’or, et, avec infiniment de patience, certains parviennent encore aujourd’hui à récolter quelques poussières d’or…
Cette région de montagnes, de forêts et de pâturages, autrefois possession des Comtes de Foix et sanctuaire de l’ours brun, appartient à la partie orientale des Pyrénées et bénéficie d’un climat ensoleillé (2400 h d’ensoleillement/an) et relativement sec, proche de celui de la Cerdagne, dont elle est séparée par le col de Puymorens. Par le col du Trou de l’Ours, elle touche Montségur, haut lieu de l’histoire cathare. Elle est voisine d’Andorre. L’Espagne est à 31 km à vol d’oiseau. Le point culminant de la région est le Pic d’Estat (3150 m).
La cache est de type traditionnel. Elle contient le logbook et divers petits jouets.

In the village of Luzenac (Ariège county, Pyrenees), at the end of the small and narrow Church Street (only for pedestrian from the Church), in front of a country house (gîte rural). In this place the Ariège River makes an angle. Very large rocks, coming from the last glacial erosion periode. The cache is located closed to a quince tree, near the rocks, in a rocky wall. The access to the cache is easy, at the end of the street, by a small wood wicket, on the left, that gives the way to a small stone staircase leading to the river. Then go the the right, skirting the wall, on 10 meters.
The cache "Les Aygues-Vives de Luzenac" is located on a classified Natura 2000 ecological site of interest, not far from Ax-les-Thermes, in high-Ariège. The place is famous for trout angling and also to observe wild duck families , dippers and wagtails moving around.
Contiguous to the cache, a small sand beach is very convenient for bathing in the river. The alluvia of Ariège attracted the gold diggers for a long time, and, with infinitely of patience, it is still today possible to collect some gold dust…
This area of mountains, forests and pastures, formerly property of the Counts of Foix and sanctuary of the brown bears, belongs to the eastern part of the Pyrenees. It profits from sunny conditions (2400 H of sun/year) and relatively dry weather, close to Catalogne climate. By the pass of the Hole of the Bear, the village is connected to Montségur, a famous place for the Cathare history. The homes are 31 km far to Spain (as the crow flies) and 25 to Andorra. The highest summit of this area is Pic d’Estat (3150m).
The cache is traditionnal. It comprises the logbook and small toys.
