Willoughby Park II Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Sludge_Shoveler: I just went out to look for it. A lot has changed in the 8 years since it was placed. It was a jungle then, but it is much worse now. Then there were several trails (unmarked but used by locals), but now the only trail is where the neighbor hauls his yard waste (illegally). It is a full half mile of bush whacking. I finally got to the posted coordinates and searched for a half hour or more. There is no sign of a cache. My guess is that some deer poacher got himself a new ammo can with a geo-sticker on it. Who else would wander that far into a jungle?

Geocache Description:

This cache is located in an undeveloped Lansing City Park called Willoughby Park. It replaces another cache of mine in this park.

The coordinates were averaged over 200 times, so I expect them to be pretty good despite some tree cover. There is a park sign at N42 39.278 W84 33.500, but it is pretty much obscured by overgrown vegetation. There is no parking lot, so please find a legal and safe parking spot on a nearby public street, N42 39.309 W84 33.431. Enter the park near the sign. There is an unmarked trail starting near there. The park property is fairly narrow at the road but widens out as you get deeper into the woods. There is no rhyme or reason to the trails you may find, they were created by local kids or local deer. The terrain is uneven, and bushwhacking is required. The walk in is almost a half mile, but you cannot walk in a straight line. I recommend marking a couple waypoints on the way in so you will be able to walk out without trespassing. Mosquitoes will be thick at times. Thorns and briers are more than abundant. The ground is filled with little sink holes that are just begging for a chance to break someone’s leg. So be careful. Oh and don't forget about the swamp.

CONGRATULATIONS to STEVE of Steve and Sara on being the First To Find!
