The Maori were known to be the most feared of the Pacific Island warriors. From the mokos that cover their faces to the fierceness of their hakas, they easily intimidate their opponents.I've had the privilege of dancing with a Maori group in New Zealand and these young people were very passionate about their culture and their hakas.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you've never had the opportunity to watch a haka, I hope you get the chance to. The power you feel emanating from these warriors is amazing...and I'm not talking about the other island groups that try to imitate the Maori. The haka has become the in-thing to try and duplicate and while most of these groups are giving tribute to the Maori by doing so, it's just not the same.

Kapa o pango kia whakawhenua au i ahau!
Hi aue, hi!

Ko Aotearoa e ngunguru nei!
Au, au, aue ha!

Ko Kapa o Pango e ngunguru nei!
Au, au, aue ha!

I ahaha!
Ka tu te ihiihi
Ka tu te wanawana
Ki runga ki te rangi e tu iho nei, tu iho nei, hi!

Ponga ra!
Kapa o Pango, aue hi!
Ponga ra!
Kapa o Pango, aue hi, ha!

TRANSLATION:

Let me become one with the land
This is our land that rumbles
And it's my time! It's my moment!
This defines us as the All Blacks
It's my time! It's my moment!
Our dominance
Our supremacy will triumph
And will be placed on high
Silver fern!
All Blacks!
Silver fern!
All Blacks!
