This cache is hidden along a looped walk called The Ballyvaughan
Wood Loop in the Burren region of County Clare. The posted
co-ordinates are for the first stage of this multi-cache. Parking
is available along the quay beside the posted co-ordinates. The
answers needed to complete this multi-cache can be found at the
additional waypoints provided along the loop.
The Ballyvaughan Wood Loop is part of the network of National
Looped Walks. It is approximately 8km, with an elevation change of
15m and is waymarked using the purple National Looped Walk
directional arrows. These waymarkers are clearly displayed on posts
and are easy to follow. It should take approximately 3 hours plus
any time you want to spend for lunch or taking photos on the
route.
On the Ballyvaughan Wood Loop you will see some of the major
habitats within the Burren: limestone pavement, calcareous
grassland, hazel scrub and ash/hazel woodland. The terrain is a
mixture of minor roads, animal tracks and green lanes. Please
follow all instructions on waymark posts and signs along the route
and watch for livestock. Never assume that moss has rock beneath it
- there are many grikes in the limestone pavement. The usual gear
applies - sturdy walking boots, waterproofs, rucksack, fluid,
snacks, mobile phone.
Please respect the Burren Code, see image in gallery. There is
no need to cross dry stone walls - all crossings are via the
waymarked stiles.
The answer to each question is a number which is assigned a
