Geocache Description:

This Cache will return you back in time in the II-nd century A.D.

English The Fortress "Sveti Duh" is situated near the village of Mineralni bani. There has been active human presence in this region since ancient times. Four main periods have been established: Roman, Late Roman, Early Byzantine and Medieval, which comprise the time frame from the II-nd till the XI-th century. In the historical literature, the Fortress and the village in Mineralni bani are identified with Toplitsa, which is mentioned by the Byzantine historian Michail Ataliat and the continuer of Skilitsa (XI-th century). The finds in the domicile and farm buildings, discovered during the excavations, as well as the massive ceramic material show that the Fortress has been used as a defensive facility till the middle of the XI-th century, when the Fortress was attacked by pecheneg tribes and was most likely destroyed. A Medieval acropolis arose in this place, where during excavations a considerable amount of rich jewel products were found. The countryside became desolate at the end of XIV-th century, when the Balkan Peninsula fell under Ottoman rule. The cache is placed outside the Fortress, near the alley and the benches.

Български Крепостта "Свети Дух" край село Минерални бани възниква около 2 век от новата ера, но в нейния район има активно човешко присъствие още от древността. Установени са четири основни периода: римски, късноримски, ранновизантийски и средновековен, които обхващат времето от 2 до 11 век. В историческата литература крепостта и селището в Минерални бани се идентифицират с Топлица, която се споменава от византийския историк Михаил Аталиат и продължителят на Скилица (11в.) Откритите при разкопките находки в жилищните и стопанските помещения, както и масовия керамичен материал, показват че крепостта се иизползва като отбранително съоръжение до към средата на 11 век, когато крепостта бива нападната от печенеги и вероятно е разрушена. На мястото възниква средновековен акропол, в който по време на разкопките са открити значително количество богати ювелирни произведения. Местността запустява в края на 14 век, когато Балканският полуостров пада под османска власт.
