Haubakken Tenerife
Elevator Tower
At one of my many trips here in Playa de las Americas, found a
friend of me and I this hole in march 2008.
It is very deep. Have tried to drop a small stone into it, and it
is 8-9 seconds before it is completely silent.
Do not know why it's made, but it's been brought up something from
the hole. Elevator Tower and the remains of the lift machine is
still here.
Possible explanation is as simple as a watering hole. The second
option is that it is taken out in minerals.
Maybe someone can give information on this hole.
The name I have copied from a small town in North of Norway called
Ballangen..
From 1910-1964 operated a mine in which they took out the pyrite.
On Haubakken was a big elevator towers over "Olavssjakten" (Olavs
shaft) which was blasted over 400 meters down in the
mountain.
Many of the words used in mining, is derived from German, and so
the word is adapted to the Norwegian language. A "sjakt or shaft"
is a vertical mine. During construction it is also called the "synk
or sink". The horizontal mining times called the "stoll or
gallery"
When I put out the cache in March, I called it "Midtsynken", but
when I now sit in Norway and shall register this, I thought that
the place name was straighter. Therefore, I called the cache
"Haubakken Tenerife.
In May, I visited Ballangen, and when I put the cache on the real
Haubakken too.

Then I would lay out the cache, I had two
different names that I thought. It was Midtsynken and Haubakken. I
found that Haubakken fit best, but then I forgot to change the name
of the cache, so there is Midtsynken. To correct it when we come
down in October.
