Geocache Description:

Cache located at a little used or known entrance to Pacific Rim National Park. Access is on a small and sometimes steep trail off Rossander Main. This is the trail to the Cheewhat Cedar.

Cache is not located in the park itself, nor is it very close to the actual Cheewhat Cedar itself. I strongly encourage all who come to sojourn past the cache to behold the marvel that is Canada's largest living organism.
While not the tallest tree in the country, the volume off wood contained in the Cheewhat Cedar is the Canadian record. This massive multi stemmed Western Red Cedar has a circumference of 18.34m, a height of 55.5m, and a total wood volume of 449 cubic metres. There is a fairly sizable western hemlock growing out of the Cheewhat about a third of the way up.

The trail to the Cheewhat Cedar takes about 30-40 minutes each way, and takes you past some other extremely large Western Red Cedars. Keep walking and don't be fooled by imitations, when you behold the giant, you will know which tree is the big one.

The trail is difficult in spots, and has steep sections and some blow down, but is well marked with flagging. The trail head is difficult to spot. There is a small pullout.
