Fry Creek is one of the fantastic easy hikes the West Kootenays has
to offer. It's an excellent shoulder season hike, snow-free before
the higher elevation areas.
The hike to this cache is about 2.5 km one-way and takes you to the
mouth of Fry Creek. When you get to the junction to go up the
canyon trail or to the bridge, go to the bridge to look at the view
and then continue up the canyon. The canyon trail will shortly take
you past this cache, and continues to the
Fry Creek Canyon cache.
Driving Directions to the Trailhead:
Drive north from Kaslo past Lardeau. At 34.5 km, turn right onto
Argenta Road (reset odometer to zero). 500 m later, after crossing
the Lardeau River, the pavement ends. Not quite a kilometer
further, at a 3-way junction, turn right. At 6.5 km, at a signed
junction, go right (left leads to Earl Grey Pass). At 10.6 km, stay
right where Salisbury Creek FS Road ascends left. The Fry Creek
Canyon trailhead is at 17.9 km.
Driving directions pilfered from "Where Locals Hike in the West
Kootenay". Thanks...
The trail starts to the right of the trailhead sign and descends
south.
