Rainbow Valley Dairy Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Krypton: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

In the former pasture of the Rainbow Valley Dairy, now the north shore of Lake Siskiyou. Recently a new trail was built next to the cache location which has led to plundering. A new location is in the works.

The Rainbow Valley Dairy used to provide milk for the residents of Mount Shasta. In the 1960's the dairy was flooded by the construction of Lake Siskiyou. The pastures that were above the level of the lake have now been overgrown with ponderosa pine and willows. The cache is away from the lake since the area is visited by many people fishing and enjoying the lake.

The orignial cache container was plundered, the following is the log report after the contents were recovered (December 27, 2001).

A geocacher with a good nose found the cache and made the following errors:
  • Didn't check website before caching, would have seen that nothing edible was in cache
  • Bit cache container open, ruining lid.
  • Didn't read the caching instructions.
  • Ruined logbook ziplock bag by biting it open.
  • Bit the logbook.
  • Did not sign or date the logbook.
  • Chewed off both ends of the mechanical pencil so that others couldn't use it.
  • Fought with Dyno (travel bug), biting off his tail.
  • Didn't take the travel bug to another cache.
  • Took caching instruction sheet (hopefully to use in another cache).
  • Tried to open card game with teeth but gave up.
  • Didn't replace the cache in the stump.
  • Left the cache contents scattered along the trail to the lake.
  • Left the lid in the snow 150 feet from the cache site.
  • Took more than one item from the cache.
  • Didn't leave something to replace the things taken.
  • Didn't go to www.geocaching.com to log visit.
  • In short, a bear tore it up out of curiosity, the container was replaced with an ammo box and contained the original cache lid (chewed by bear) and regular type contents.
