Geocache Description:

Medium-small camouflaged PB jar.

Cache named for the telephone exchange name in this vicinity. When telephone numbers began with just their three-number prefixes, the seven-digits were often written as two-letter abbreviations followed by five numbers (2L-5N). Into the early 1970s, it was not unusual to hear someone say a phone number starting with the neighborhood exchange name (“GReenwood 3-xxxx“). • There are hundreds of local exchange names around the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia and possibly other countries. (source: The Telephone EXchange Name Project) • Exchange names can still be used, but… They might cause more bewilderment than a confrontation with a rotary dial phone. • If you - or someone you know - is old enough, you probably remember, or could find out, your own telephone exchange name. Along with other area history, exchange names lend a fun sense of connection to where you grew up – or where you live now.
