It's a birthday party for my son Emthry and I. His birthday is the 5th and mine is the 7th, so every year we celebrate our birthdays together. It seemed a fitting occasion for my first event, and the dates fall during that boring time of the summer when 4th of July festivities are over, kids aren't ready to go back to school yet, and it is HOT! So a picnic in a woodsy park near our home ought to make for a good event, I hope!
My logs say Momofm3, his say Emthry. You can guess his name does get morphed into just Em, or M3..and sometimes kiddo. So there are the M&Ms for the event, but feel free to bring some more...hopefully some real food will show up too!
Prospect Hill Park is part of Waltham Parks and Recreation, and also home to 3 very fine geocaches (one of which is mine - Lost Duck Pond).
The park has no restrooms, but it does have a playground close to the entrance, just off of Totten Pond Road. Follow the drive through the gate to procede to the picnic areas up the mountain. I feel I can call it a mountain as there were several attempts to keep a ski area going here through the years. Remnants of the rusting equipment can be found throughout the hillsides.
A rudementary trail map can be viewed in 2 parts below, or pick up a brochure at the kiosk at the bottom of the hill.
Don't feel an obligation to bring presents, just your company! Oh yeah, and food.
The Summer House site is reserved for us, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. From there there are some nice hikes to Boston Rock where you can cache, I mean catch a nice view of Boston. Also up the hill some is a view of the Cambridge Reservoir, some old radio towers, water towers (of which I hear one is a benchmark)
