At Shaker Landing you will see the historic High Bridge which spans the Kentucky River, foundations of Shaker buildings, and the restored timber frame stable and and interpretive center. The sternwheeler, Dixie Belle, cruises the Kentucky River from its dock at Shaker Landing.
You return to the village by (a) using the same trail, or (b) walking the paved road originally built by the Shakers in 1861. The trail is beautiful at any time of year, but is quite majestic in the spring, when the hills are carpeted with patchwork of showy wildflowers. Use caution where the trail parallels cliff areas.
Trail length: 3 miles round trip. Moderate due to elevation change.
ABOUT THE CACHE
The cache is an ammo can with logbook and room for trade items. As always, bring your own writing instrument. I brought an ammo can to place but grew tired of carrying down to Shaker Landing and back up. So, this looks like a nice, shady spot just off-trail for a cache.
Although the trail starts from Shaker Village, you can access this area from the parking area at Shaker Landing when the Dixie Belle is running.
Permission for cache placement provided by Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill.
