Rain Garden Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wizard of Ooze: Cache owner,

As you have not indicated that you have visited your cache location to replace it if it was missing, perform needed maintenance, or verify that it is still there within a reasonable amount of time, I am regretfully archiving the cache to clear it from the active cache database and open the area to new caching opportunities.

Please do not respond to this note by sending an email reply — your response will go to an unmonitored location and disappear into the ethernet instead of being sent to me. If you need to contact me regarding this cache, please do so using the link on my Profile Page

Thank you for your contribution to geocaching.

Geocache Description:

I invite you to come find this well camouflaged cache container and enjoy a peaceful little garden in one of Mission's busy urban areas.
It is constructed entirely from materials that I CITO'd from other cache locations :-)

This area was previously a large parking lot that sat unused most of the time.
In 2009 construction of the Rain Garden began and is still in progress today.
The current plan is to have an education center that will teach about water run off and pollution.

Before Rain Garden
Example of a completed Rain Garden

Rain Gardens are an amazing way to protect our watersheds. They are created in urban areas and are designed to deal with excess water that washes off our streets and yards. This run-off may contain pollutants like oil, car fluids, lawn fertilizer and pesticides. These unwanted materials often end up in our storm drains, lakes and streams.
Cross section of a Rain Garden.

A typical city block absorbs 5 times less water than a wooded area of the same size.
The water that does leave the rain garden is clean water having been filtered by the soil.
