Detta är starten för Tjörn Runt, en årligt återkommande regatta. Tredje lördagen i augusti seglas regattan där familjeseglare och olympiamästare tampas om segern. 463 båtar fullföljde regattan 2009.
This marks the start point for Tjörn Runt, a yearly regatta in Stenungsund. The third Saturday in August each year both families and olympic masters sail to win this regatta. 463 vessels reached goal in 2009.
Idén att kappsegla runt Tjörn föddes 1963 under ett kräftkalas. Under åren kom seglare från närliggande klubbar för att deltaga.
Ingen kunde då ana att det skulle bli en sådan succé med upp till 1000 båtar under de bästa åren. Tävlingarna kräver en stor arrangörsstab på cirka 200 personer. Med tiden har det blivit en publikfest som lockar närmare 30.000 åskådare. (StSS)
The idea to sail around Tjörn was born during a "kräftkalas" crayfish party in 1963. During the years to come people joined in from nearby sailing clubs. Noone could imagine that it would turn out to be a success with up to 1000 vessels. It is also a public feast with about 30 000 spectators. (StSS)
