The Dridu Lake has been built for the irrigation of the surrounding
agriculture. Unfortunately, the irrigation equipment has
disappeared after the revolution, therefore the lake has lost its
main purpose. But it remained a place for recreation, fishing, and
even windsurfing as some fotos found on the web show.
But now the times have changed, the water had been drained.
There are construction works going on at the barrage. Thus, if you
go there this year, don't expect a lake, for the moment there is
only the river Ialomita to be seen.
I recommend to explore the area by bike. The whole northern part
of the lake is rather quiet, there is nearly no car traffic.
By the way, be careful! In the area of the cache the waterside
is steep and hidden in the shrubs. That's why the cache is not
placed directly there.
I must admit that I am not especially happy with the hiding
place, but I did not find a better one. The cache is placed in a
little wood, close to a broken tree, under dead branches and other
natural waste. Though I think the coordinates are accurate, I have
added a spoiler photo.
Update 24.8.2010: The terrain rating is valid if you take the
way from Dridu-Snagov.
Update 9.11.2010: There is also a way from Fierbinti that can be
used by car, but it's much harder to find the right one from there.
I tried it out and succeeded, but the weather was dry. Better don't
try this after rainy days or in winter. Raised difficulty from 2 to
3 stars. Added a waypoint where I would leave the car. Please bring
your own pen, I've forgotten (again) to leave one there.
