Geocache Description:

On this leg of Paul's journey, he is searching for Harriet Tubman which may be kind of difficult since she was always so good at hiding.

Tubman was born a slave but escaped to the north in 1849 with the promise that she would return to help others do the same. For a period of 10 years she led mission after mission to help slaves escape to Canada on the Underground Railroad. She claimed never to have lost a single person. Through this success, she earned the nickname "Moses".

During the Civil War, Tubman served the Union in a number of ways. At times she was a scout or spy, while at other times she served as a nurse.

In her later years, Tubman participated in the suffrage movement and even helped found a home for elderly former slaves.

Tubman died at the old age of 93 from complications of pneumonia. Just before she died she told her family and friends who were gathered around her, "I go to prepare a place for you." With that, she closed her eyes and passed away.
