Brace Mountain, located in the South Taconic Range of Taconic State Park, is surprisingly little known in these parts despite its large stature both physically and in natural beauty. Plan on spending the better part of a day going to & from and exploring this incredible area.
Geocache "Brace Yourself" is an ammo can located near (but not on) the summit of Brace Mountain. The hint (below) is a giveaway.
This cache has been granted geocaching Permit #01 issued by the Copake Office of the New York State Office of Parks, recreation, and Historic Preservation.
The terrain rating is 3.5 for a reason because of the challenging hike. You need to be in excellent physical condition and be prepared to handle the occasional rock scramble and steep elevation change. Get a good night's sleep before doing this trek, have a high energy breakfast, pack plenty of water and a lunch, strap on your best hiking boots, and go for it!
The South Taconic Range borders Northwest Connecticut (to the east) and New York State (to the west). Having hiked most of the peaks and trails in these parts I can tell you that this is one of the great wonders of this area.
The ammo can should be visible before moving any rock(s) that secure the container. That is to say, please do NOT start dismantling any walls to find this one.
When rehiding the container please make sure to reseal the can to maintain the waterproof protection, then rehide securely with a rock over it otherwise it will be at risk of being muggled or cruggled (critter-muggled).
