Geocache Description:

Purple Loosestrife is a striking, eight-foot-tall noxious weed that grows near aquatic areas. The plant has pink/purplish flower spikes, and was once sought after as an ornamental plant. Find this cache in the serene Hyatt Wetlands area - and keep your eye out for Purple loosestrife just northwest of where the cache is hidden. Beware - the Purple loosestrife is also kind of hidden! :-)

Find this cache to learn more about how to identify Purple loosestrife and discover why it's such a serious problem in Ada County. Then if you come across any Purple loosestrife infestations when you’re playing on public lands in Ada County, we ask that you please log the GPS coordinates and submit them to Ada County Weed Control either by following the links below or by emailing them to weedandpest@adaweb.net.

The easiest way to access the cache is by parking near the intersection of McMillan Road and Sunderland Drive. Cross over the canal and to your right you'll see the park access gate. Eventually you'll come to a fork in the pathway - take the trail on the right. You'll walk some distance until you see a forked sloping trail on the left-hand side. Veer to your right after about 30 feet. The cache is hidden a little ways off the trail next to the water. Look for a camouflaged thermos container hidden in a thicket of small willow trees.
