In the year 1800 The village of Little Falls had it's start at the
mouth of Furnace Run in Franklin Township, Fayette county. It
consisted of an Iron furnace, a forge, a gristmill, a sawmill, a
store, and dwellings-mostly occupied by the workers and a stone
house long known as "Mansion House". The forge was known as
Franklin Ironworks-built by George Lamb. He built here intending to
make iron from the ore in the area, but the ore would not make such
iron that he wanted, so he abandoned the project. He sold the
property to F.H. Oliphant in 1825. The business was closed in 1839
which ended the history of the village of Little Falls as the
workers moved away in search of other employment and the works fell
into decay. The house was occupied for some time after by James
Lynch. This account came from a 1906 history book of Fayette
County. At the present We could find hardly any trace of this
village. Can You? From the Yough trail, go .12 mile upstream on
Furnace Run.
