The Central Pasco & Gulf (CP&G) is a 7 1/2" gauge railroad being constructed within Pasco County's Crews Lake Wilderness Park. The park is near Shady Hills in the north central portion of Pasco County Florida. The railroad is based upon the Orange Belt Railway. which ran from Sanford to St. Petersburg through Pasco County. The major towns on the CP&G are named for stops/stations on its route. The CP&G will be a point-to-point with approximately 15,000 feet of mainline track. The phase currently under construction, is approximately 1,500 feet long and is targeted to be completed in 2010.

Crews Lake Park in northern Pasco County offers a hiking loop with a nice immersion into the sandhills, where you see lots of spring and fall wildflowers. Although the trail loses its natural feel as it passes through the picnic areas along the lakeshore, the views are great. Walk down to the boat ramp and begin a clockwise walk around the loop by turning right to enter the woods along the Gallery of Trees a showcase of native trees that yields to a native hardwood hammock. After 0.3 mile, you reach a junction with the perimeter loop, so make your decision whether to stick with the interpretive (inner loop) trail or walk the perimeter loop. Both trails traverse a variety of habitats, including sandhills, scrubby flatwoods, cypress domes, oak hammocks, and the shore of Crews Lake. This park has plenty to do in addition to hiking, with a fishing pier and shoreline fishing - if there's any water nearby a paved bike trail, boat ramp and canoe launch, tent campground, numerous picnic areas and shelters, playground, and native plant garden.
