Geocache Description:

We have long heard the story of a mysterious domestic Rhododendron growing near Galena Bay. So we set out in search of it the 1st week in June 2010 and it was a DNF for us despite hiking several kilometers zigging and zagging the bush in an attempt to find it :-( .

So we enlisted the assistance of friend and fellow geocacher Chainsaw, who has seen these plants several years ago and after a few hours of searching we were sucessfull and found GZ.

The Rhodo is growning amoungst the other trees in the forest without the care or attention normally needed.
The story as we have heard it is that there at one time was some kind of roadhouse here for weary travelers. There is evidence of an old trail as well as old "bridge" across a dry creek. A garden was created at the start of the early 1900's and this plant is all that remains to this day.

Travelling north from Nakusp you will turn left onto Branch 50 logging road which is located north of Halcyon Hotsprings. Continue in on this logging road. Take the 3nd spur road to your right and then stay to the right until you get to the parking area located at N50 34.886 W117 53.758

The cache is a large lock n lock container containing red and white items that celebrate Canada.

When the cache was placed it contained a
Frisbee
Pen/Pencil
Bear Bell
Bracelet
Zipper pull
a variety of pins from previous July 1st celebrations in Nakusp
and other good swag.

FTF prize is whatever you would like out of the container and we have also placed one of our new Pathtags for the FTF and hope that you log the find at Pathtags.com.
