Geocache Description:

This cache was placed in Caledonia State Park by the Environmental Interpretive Technician. Both Mountain Laurel and wild blueberry shrubs prefer growing on rocky mountain tops and thrive best with sunlight.

Mountain Laurel, kalmia latifolia, blooms in early June. On May 5, 1933 Governor Gifford Pinchot chose Mountain Laurel as the Pennsylvania State flower. With the colorful display of white and pink flowers, seeking them out is a great family activity.

Northern Blueberry, Vaccinium corymbosum, is native to the Appalchians, and in August, bears fruit. Although they are good for human consumption, their location in the forest means they should be reserved for the wildlife to eat.
