Geocache Description:

A unique hole in the rock next to the highway. This cache is a bit difficult to find, not that it isn't in plain sight, more because you just might not see it right in front of you. May or may not be here, I've had to replace it before. Should be next to the dirt road that leads away from the stopping area in from of the hole in the rock. Right side, maybe 50-70 yards in. Small pinecone replica (4-5" long), flat on one side. IT IS NOT UP THE SIDE OF THE HILL.

August 1, 2020After seeing a number of dnf entries I went by to check on this cache. After three visits I could not find it and I know what it looks like. The major problem is that it is a fake pine cone and there are currently 9 billion pine cones on the ground right now. So, I placed a new one, same pine cone shape, where it will be easier to find and still right where the cords say it should be. So, be aware that there are two caches here now, both look like pine cones. If you find the new one, it has a new log and probably looks newer. If you find the original one it will have a very used log. If you do happen to find the original while looking, find the new one and place them together, then let me know here so i can come get one. This one is a bit tougher than I originally thought so i bumped the difficulty rating a bit. ===== I drive past this very unique spot 50 times a year on the way to our cabin. I still don't really know what it is or why it is here, I suspect it is an old mine, but when you stop and peer inside it only seems to go in about 50 feet or so. I have never actually crawled inside, it's kinda creepy in there. However it is obvious others have done exactly that. While it was tempting to place this cache all the way inside, I decided that would present a barrier to most people in getting to the cache while exposing it to muggles. That said, the 'hole in the wall' is a way to get you close to the cache. As you face the oddity, the actual cache location is to your left, a little ways down the dirt road you see there. This is usually accessable in the winter as well, depending on the actual snowfall. Following your GPS will get you to the spot, finding the cache will present an additional challenge. This one is designed to blend in and hide. If you do find it, my plan is to keep it stocked with unique travel bugs and coins, thereby rewarding you for the find. PLEASE, ONLY TAKE ONE, LEAVE THE REST FOR OTHERS. I have a cache in seattle that gets cleaned out on occasion by geocachers that don't seem to follow the 'take one and leave one' rule, depending more on the 'take everything and leave nothing' concept. Good luck with this one! I got the idea from another cache on the other side of Blewett Pass that took my wife and I four visits to eventually find, and only then by tripping over the dang thing.
