Little Boys
(and Girls)
KEEP OUT!
When I was a young boy I lived across the street from here. This
was the boonies back then. There was only one subdivision past this
one, and then Shavano Park.
I was an adventurous lad. 93 acres of wilderness was across the
street calling my name. It also called the name of Jim and Laura
Beth. Jim and I were pretty much joined at the hip. Laura Beth a
little younger, but we tolerated her.
We'd sneak into the Boy Scout Park. We'd try to climb the tree.
We'd fly kites. We did all the things kids did back then.
The Scout Park was a fun place to sneak into. That was until
Laura Beth's Dad decided we didn't need to be sneaking in there any
longer. He'd only told us 498 times not to do it. If he'd only told
us about 396 more times we might have heard him - not that we would
have obeyed him mind you.
So he put an end to it one day by driving all these posts in the
ground so we couldn't go under the fence. And back then there were
three strands of "Bob Wire" across the top, so going over wasn't
possible then. After all I couldn't have been but 7 at the
most...
So here we are a few decades later. The park is no longer the
boonies. Kids aren't sneaking in under the fence. Boy Scouts don't
even stay here. Cub Scouts camp here now. The posts are still here.
Maybe they're there to keep the Scouts in!
